IND vs BAN: "He Is Someone Who Deserves This Opportunity": Dinesh Karthik On Abhimanyu Easwaran

Dinesh Karthik, the veteran keeper-batter, offers insight on India ‘A’ captain Abhimanyu Easwaran being brought up to the national side following Rohit Sharma’s injury. The Bengal-born batsman has been a consistent performer on the domestic circuit and was rewarded with his first international call-up.

Abhimanyu Easwaran has already been named to the standby list for Team India’s World Test Championship (WTC) final squad and the accompanying tour of England in 2021.

In an unofficial Test series victory over Bangladesh by India A earlier this month, the opening batsman recently scored two centuries.

Since making his first-class cricket debut in 2013, he has been a stalwart for Bengal, averaging 45.33.

With players like Shubman Gill and KL Rahul already in the starting XI, according to Dinesh Karthik, the new kid on the block will have a difficult time breaking into the lineup.

Dinesh Karthik stated on Cricbuzz that Easwaran deserves a call-up regardless of whether he participates in a match: “Abhimanyu Easwaran has been on the circuit for a while and has done extremely well. He deserves the chance, but he may not play in the XI since Shubman Gill and KL Rahul will open the batting.”

“He has been a terrific servant for Bengal in domestic cricket for the previous 4-5 years, I assure you. I’ve practiced with him and seen how hard he works, so he deserves this opportunity.”

The integrity of domestic cricket performances has been questioned, particularly since the inception of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Dinesh Karthik praised the selectors for selecting players from the home circuit, saying: “I think there has been a lot of talk about the selectors and the kind of selections made, but this one is highly justified. They could have easily gone with Mukesh Kumar, who has just done well for India A, but rewarding domestic performance is great.”

The first Test between India and Bangladesh is set to begin on December 14 at Chattogram’s Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium.
