Ravichandran Ashwin once again proved his worth as an all-rounder as he scored an unbeaten 42 to help India win the second Test against Bangladesh in Dhaka from a precarious position. He added an unbeaten 71-run stand with Shreyas Iyer (29*)who played his part in the run chase as well.
India were 74/7 after the fall of Axar Patel’s wicket in the 30th over of the Indian run chase. That was when Ashwin and Iyer joined hands and started building a partnership. They initially weathered a good spell of bowling from Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Shakib Al Hasan who shared the seven Indian wickets that fell. Mehidy took five and Shakib took two.
The two Indian batters gradually took the team close to the total and with 16 runs required Ashwin took matters into his own hands slamming Mehidy for two fours and one six to win the game for India.
He was chosen the Man of the Match for his gritty innings. As generous as he is as a cricketer, Ravichandran Ashwin spoke about sharing the award with Shreyas Iyer complementing the way he played.
KL Rahul at the post-match presentation admitted that the players in the Indian dressing room were nervous during the Indian run-chase. However, Ashwin said that he was not inside the dressing room and sat outside while the other batters were batting and thus had no idea of the atmosphere inside.
I Believe I Can Control Things With Bat And Ball: Ravichandran Ashwin
“I went and sat outside (of the dressing room), so I had no idea (what was happening inside). I am a nervous watcher of others’ batting but once I have the ball or bat I always believe I can control things.”
Time and again in recent times, Ashwin has proved his worth with the bat. The batter with five Test hundreds kept a cool and calm head alongside Virat Kohli in the tricky run chase against Pakistan in the T20 World Cup 2022 game in Melbourne.
“I don’t like to go down without a fight. I have always put myself in tough situations from the age of 8. So I try and fight every single day and I don’t like to lose like every member of my team. These are the two occasions where I came out on the right side,” he said adding, “So glad,” Ashwin concluded saying.
