In the ODI against Bangladesh, Ishan Kishan scored a brilliant double-century of 210 runs off 131 balls with 24 fours and 10 sixes. Kishan completed his 200 runs in just 126 balls and broke Chris Gayle’s record for the fastest double century in world cricket history.

Ishan is the fourth Indian after Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, and Rohit Sharma to score a double century in ODIs. Ishan’s attacking batting style has been compared to that of MS Dhoni. Ishan hails from Jharkhand, the same state as Dhoni, and often credits Dhoni for playing an important role in his career.

I Could Have Gone For 300 – Ishan Kishan

Ishan Kishan stated that Virender Sehwag was his idol before MSD, and his batting approach is quite similar to his. Kishan explained how he observed Sehwag’s innings and how he adopted his aggressive approach to batting.

“I know that there was still 15 overs to go, so right now when I watch my highlights I still think about the fact that 15 overs were there and maybe I could have gone for 300 but I think that my wrists were gone,” Ishan Kishan told to OneCricket.

“Maybe I bat like this because I watch a lot of Virender Sehwag highlights and I have seen him smack bowlers like Brett Lee and Shoaib Akhtar all around the ground and maybe I got the instinct of attacking batting from him,” Kishan further added.

MS Dhoni For Sure – Ishan Kishan

Ishan idolized both Dhoni and Gilchrist, but when he had to choose one, he said it was Dhoni. He stated that Dhoni’s calmness both on and off the field helps a person grow.

“MS Dhoni for sure. I love Adam Gilchrist’s batting and his keeping skills but Dhoni bhai, I have seen him all around as in what he does on the field, off the field, the calmness and everything.”

“The way he meets everyone. So these things also matter – how you function and getting to know how he does it and it what way. He has helped me a lot also, how to take care of yourself when you are around people.”
