Men in Blue will aim to win the final match of the three-match ODI series to avoid a humiliating whitewash against Bangladesh. After surrendering both matches at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, the Men in Blue caravan move to Chattogram.

The Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium will host the final match of the ODI series on December 10 (Saturday). India A captain Abhimanyu Easwaran is likely to be called as injured skipper Rohit Sharma’s replacement for the upcoming two-Test series against Bangladesh, starting in Chattogram on December 14.

Ahead of the final ODI vs Bangladesh, injuries are the main concern for the visitors. As of now, at least three players are confirmed to miss the third and final ODI of the series. Skipper Rohit Sharma was among the three players confirmed by head Rahul Dravid to miss the third ODI against Bangladesh as he will head to Mumbai to consult an expert.

Pacer Deepak Chahar, who only bowled three overs in the second ODI in Dhaka, was also ruled out of the final ODI as was fellow pacer Kuldeep Sen, who missed the match on Wednesday.

Bangladesh were able to continue their streak of not losing an ODI series at home since 2016 after surviving a scare from Rohit Sharma in the second ODI. They are without Tamim Iqbal, their regular skipper, and one can only imagine how deadly they would be with him back. Their fastest bowler, Taskin Ahmed, is also absent.

The skipper Rohit Sharma copped an injury to his finger in Bangladesh’s batting innings while attempting a catch. The ball hit his thumb and he was seen bleeding as he walked off. The BCCI later confirmed he had gone for scans after the BCCI medical team assessed him.

However, with the Men in Blue in dire straits in the run chase, Rohit Sharma walked out to bat at No.9, slamming an unbeaten 51 off just 28 balls to take India to the brink of an unlikely win.  He hit a six with 12 runs needed off two balls, but could only manage a single off the final ball as Bangladesh wrapped up a series victory with the five-run win.

One of the uncapped Rahul Tripathi or Rajat Patidar will replace Rohit Sharma in the team. Ishan Kishan might replace Shikhar Dhawan as the other opener in the team. Shahbaz Ahmed is likely to play ahead of Deepak Chahar who sustained an injury in the 2nd ODI.

Ishan Kishan

Ishan Kishan may replace an out of form Shikhar Dhawan in the 3rd and final inconsequential ODI. Shikhar Dhawan scored only 15 runs averaging 7.5 in the first 2 ODIs against Bangladesh and is looking to lose his place in the playing XI unless his form improves heading into the 2023 ODI World Cup. His strike rate was also low at 55.56 as he wasted 27 balls to score 15 runs in the ongoing series. He may be given another chance or Ishan Kishan may play in the 3rd ODI.

Ishan Kishan has scored 267 runs in 9 ODIs -8 innings averaging 33.38 at a strike rate of 90.51. He has scored as many as 3 ODI fifties and should be given a chance.

Rahul Tripathi

Rahul Tripathi may finally make his much-awaited Team India debut replacing an injured skipper Rohit Sharma who will definitely miss the 3rd and final inconsequential ODI. Rahul Tripathi’s wait for a call-up in the national side finally came to an end with BCCI declaring the 17-member squad for the upcoming T20Is against Ireland.

Batting at a strike rate of 158.33, the right-handed batter Rahul Tripathi accumulated 413 runs from 14 matches in this edition of the IPL 2022 for Sunrisers Hyderabad. He had scored 397 in 17 matches in IPL 2021 and was a key player for his former franchise Kolkata Knight Riders.

Both Rahul Tripathi and Rajat Patidar are yet to make their India debuts. Both may debut, but Rahul Tripathi may get the nod as he didn’t get a chance to play against Ireland, Zimbabwe, and New Zealand in the away tours.

Virat Kohli

The 34-year-old middle-order batter run machine Virat Kohli’s recent ODI form isn’t that great. But a good show in the Asia Cup 2022 and T20 World Cup 2022, where he was among the leading run-getters, will give him the necessary confidence to return to form in ODIs too.

He has hit 43 ODI tons, the last of which came in August 2019 when he slammed back-to-back tons against West Indies. He is the 2nd highest century scorer in ODIs after Sachin Tendulkar (49 ODI tons) and the 6th highest run-getter in ODIs. He scored only 9 runs off 15 balls in the 1st ODI and 5 runs off 6 balls in the 2nd ODI against Bangladesh.

KL Rahul is already under fire for his sluggish show in T20 World Cup 2022.

Axar Patel missed the 1st ODI due to injury but picked up 3/37 in the 2nd ODI and scored 56 off as many balls in a lost cause. According to sources, Axar Patel is nursing a bruised rib after taking a hit while batting at the nets before the 1st ODI but played the 2nd ODI.
