IND vs BAN: "Shreyas Iyer Has Again Shown How Good He Is" - Dinesh Karthik

Veteran Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik has hailed Shreyas Iyer for the knock that he played in the fourth innings against Bangladesh to take India to a win. Iyer scored an unbeaten 29 off 46 balls and played his part in India’s 2-0 series win against Bangladesh.

Iyer and Ravichandran Ashwin added an unbeaten 71-run stand after India was struggling at 74/7 after the gall of Axar Patel’s wicket. The southpaw was promoted to number five in the batting order and scored an important 34 off 69 balls to keep India in the game.

After his dismissal, Iyer and Ashwin build a cautious partnership to start with and eventually scored the 71 needed runs and gave India a memorable win. Iyer scored 87 in the first innings and added an important 159-run stand with Rishabh Pant (93). Overall, he scored 202 runs in three innings and proved his importance in the current Test side.

Dinesh Karthik while talking to Cricbuzz said Iyer has been magnificent throughout the series, adding that he has shown how good he is.

It Was a Calm & Composed Knock From Shreyas Iyer: Dinesh Karthik

“Shreyas has been magnificent throughout the series. One of the toughest challenges in a Test match is in the fourth innings, when you are chasing down a score against all odds. Shreyas Iyer has again shown how good he is,” said Karthik.

He further said that this innings should not be forgotten on occasions when the right-hander does not score runs in a few games.

“We should never forget these kinds of facts when we discuss about him in the near future. When he gets out a couple of times, we say he should not be a part of the Test team because others outside look really good,” Karthik added.

Karthik further praised Iyer’s maturity saying that he looked calm and composed adding that he always delivers when the team is under pressure.

“It was a calm and composed knock, giving no chances. He was making sure he was consistently taking those singles. The moment the field was up, he knew there was an opportunity and he pounced on it. The guy under pressure constantly delivers,” said Karthik.

Speaking about Dinesh Karthik, he last played for India in the T20 World Cup in Australia. He will next be seen in IPL 2023 for RCB after being retained by the franchise.
