Jaydev Unadkat Breaks Record For Greatest Gap Between Two Test Appearances

Jaydev Unadkat broke the record for the greatest gap between appearances in a Test match for India when he returned to the Indian Test team after a 12-year absence. Prior to rejoining the squad, Unadkat missed 118 Tests for the national team, surpassing Dinesh Karthik’s record of 87. Unadkat’s overall record is second to England’s Gareth Batty, who missed 142 Tests.

Unadkat, who plays for Saurashtra in domestic cricket, was awarded for his dependable efforts. With 67 dismissals under his belt in just 16 innings, Unadkat finished as Saurashtra’s best wicket-taker in the 2019–20 Ranji Trophy. Unadkat, who served as the team’s captain, was instrumental in helping Saurashtra win the Ranji Trophy that season.

Bangladesh had earlier in the second Test won the toss and chosen to bat against India in Dhaka. At the opening match in Chattogram, the Indian side defeated the hosts by a margin of 188 runs, with significant contributions coming from Kuldeep Yadav (8 wickets), Cheteshwar Pujara (90 and 102* across two innings), and Shubman Gill (110 in the second innings).

India, which is presently in second place in the World Test Championship, will want to maintain that position by defeating Bangladesh handily at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Dhaka.
