The left-arm bowler Jaydev Unadkat has been selected for the India team for the Test series in Bangladesh. Mohammed Shami, who was recently ruled out of the series due to a bowling arm tension, has been replaced by Unadkat, who recently bowled Saurashtra to victory in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. India will compete in two Test matches in Bangladesh.

If Jaydev Unadkat is given the opportunity to play in one of the two Tests in Bangladesh, he will break Parthiv Patel’s record for the longest interval between two Tests by an Indian cricketer.

The left-arm bowler, who is now 31 years old, played his lone Test match at Centurion against South Africa in 2010. He has since participated in 10 Twenty20 Internationals and seven One Day Internationals, but was never a candidate for the five-day match.

Jaydev Unadkat Finally Rewarded For His Patience

Jaydev Unadkat replacing Shami may not be quite a like-for-like replacement, but the experienced bowler was chosen based on recent performances, according to sources inside the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). He got 19 wickets in 10 games during the recently finished Vijay Hazare Trophy, making him the tournament’s top wicket-taker.

Unadkat, one of the most successful pacers in Indian domestic cricket, having taken 353 wickets in 96 matches over the course of his career. This includes a record-breaking 67-wicket Ranji Trophy season in 2019–20, where he helped Saurashtra win their first Ranji Trophy championship.

In addition, there is a school of thought that claims the veteran bowler has been displaying a great deal of maturity in every format and was on the minds of the departing selection committee, which reportedly had many near calls over selecting him for the India team. By Sunday, Unadkat, who is based in Rajkot, would be joining the India team in Dhaka.

Numerous players, including captain Rohit Sharma, have sustained injuries while playing for India in Bangladesh. It is still unclear if the captain has been completely eliminated from the competition. Rohit may be eligible for the second Test after sustaining a “blow to his thumb” during the second ODI in Dhaka on December 7. (December 22-26). KL Rahul will be the team’s captain for the first Test (December 14–18).
