He bagged a 5-wicket haul in the second innings of the match by dismissing Shakib Al Hasan, Nurul Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim, Taijul Islam and Ebadot Hossain.

Kuldeep Yadav finished his spell with the figures of 16-6-40-5 to register the best Test figures by an Indian spinner in Bangladesh. He became only the third Indian spinner after Ashwin and Sunil Joshi to register a 5-wicket haul in Bangladesh in Test cricket. Notably, in Test cricket, Ashwin’s best bowling figures in Bangladesh was 5/87 and Sunil Joshi’s best bowling figures in Bangladesh was 5/142. Overall, the best bowling figures by an Indian in Test cricket in Bangladesh is 7/87, which was claimed by Zaheer Khan in Mirpur in 2007.

Meanwhile, this was Kuldeep’s third five-wicket haul in red-ball cricket, with the first two coming in Australia and India. This was also the left-arm wrist-spinnner’s career-best figures.

With the help of Kuldeep’s 5-wicket haul, Mohammed Siraj’s 3 wickets and Axar Patel and Umesh Yadav’s one wicket each, India managed to bowl out Bangladesh for a paltry 150 to take a huge 254-run lead.

I Was Very Lucky To Get The First Wicket In The First Over – Kuldeep Yadav

Speaking after Day 2, Kuldeep Yadav said that he was initially nervous, but after a few overs, he got comfortable and enjoyed his bowling. He stated:

“I was a bit nervous, I was very lucky to get the first wicket in the first over. Got the momentum back. After a couple of overs, I started feeling well, mixed my pace and variations, tried both the angles – over the wicket and round the wicket. I was getting proper turn, I was actually loving it. After I got injured, I started working on my rhythm after the injury, trying to be a bit quicker – that’s helping me a lot. I am not compromising with the spin.

“When I was batting, I thought that there was not much in it for the spinners. I didn’t face any discomfort while batting. I thought it’ll be good for batting. When you’re a wrist-spinner bowling with the Kookaburra ball, you’ll definitely get turn and bounce on such wickets.”
