The cricket community praised Rohit Sharma for his gallantry on Wednesday in Dhaka when he walked out to save his team despite having a dislocated thumb. India was down to 207 for 7 while attempting to chase a difficult 272-run goal when Rohit made the decision to go out and try to save his team’s face.

After getting hurt while catching a ball at slips earlier in the day, the Indian captain was taken to a hospital. In the middle of the game, he disappeared, and vice-captain KL Rahul took over.

Hours later, though, when he approached the plate with his left hand severely wrapped, the reaction from the crowd was overwhelming. The captain managed to smash an unbeaten 51 off just 28 balls, including 3 boundaries and 5 sixes, but India was unable to win the match.

Phenomenal For Rohit Sharma To Show That Level Of Courage: Rahul Dravid

Later, Rohit received tremendous accolades from head coach Rahul Dravid, who praised his bravery. Wednesday’s post-game press conference was where Dravid provided an insight into Rohit’s thoughts before his decision to come out to bat at position nine.

“It was phenomenal for him to show that level of courage. He had a serious dislocation and had to go to the hospital to set that right. Stitches in his hand, and a couple of injections to be able to just go out and bat. But credit to him, he was really determined to go out and have a go and take a chance and it was amazing how close he brought us with that innings,” Dravid said at the presser.

“It was an absolutely phenomenal innings by the skipper. Great courage to be able to go out there and take a chance but unfortunately, we couldn’t get over the line,” he added.

Sadly, India will be without its captain for Saturday’s third and final ODI in Chattogram. Dravid said that because to their individual injuries, Deepak Chahar, Kuldeep Sen, and Rohit will all be unable to participate in the upcoming game.

After speaking with medical professionals about the severity of his injury, a decision will be made regarding Rohit’s participation in the two-match Test series, which begins next week in Chattogram.
