IND vs BAN: “Shubman Gill Might Have To Wait If Rohit Sharma Comes Back” – Mohammad Kaif

Former India National Cricket Team batter Mohammad Kaif believes that the in-form opening batsman Shubman Gill might have to make way for Rohit Sharma in the second Test against Bangladesh.

The 23-year-old Gill scored his maiden Test ton in the first Test against Bangladesh in Chattogram and played a key role in India’s tremendous 188-run victory over the hosts.

Notably, the young opening batsman was included in the playing XI as a replacement for captain Rohit Sharma, who got ruled out of the first Test due to a thumb injury he sustained during the second ODI against Bangladesh.

Rohit has reportedly recovered from the injury and he will most likely participate in the second and final Test against the Shakib Al Hasan-led side. Meanwhile, Kaif has said that fitting Gill into the playing XI would be difficult when Rohit returns.

“It is a tough call because of the template they are following in Test cricket. They are playing with five bowlers. You could have adjusted him if you were playing four bowlers. It will be difficult to fit him in. He might have to wait if Rohit Sharma comes back,” Kaif said on Sony Sports Network.

“He has the form. If I am Shubman Gill at the moment, I will not think if my selection will happen or not, I have done my job. No one can stop him from becoming an all-format player.”

Kaif further showered ultimate praise on Gill, saying that the young opening batsman has got a perfect technique and has the hunger to score runs.

He also made a huge remark, saying that KL Rahul or Shreyas Iyer could also be dropped to include Gill in the playing XI as it would be difficult to ignore him for very long, if he continues to dish out strong performances.

“Shubman Gill has the technique, scores runs consistently, and has the hunger. He scored in the IPL and won Gujarat Titans the title, has scored centuries in ODI and Test cricket, so his 2022 has been fantastic.”

“You will not be able to stop such a player for a long time, whether you have to drop KL Rahul or Shreyas Iyer for that, the place will get created. He is looking better and better whenever he is given the opportunity. The Test match is after three days, Rohit Sharma might not come as well,” said Kaif.

The second Test between India and Bangladesh is set to be played from December 22 to 26 at Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur.
