IND vs BAN: Umran Malik Is The Second Indian Player I'm Excited To See After Sachin Tendulkar: Sunil Gavaskar

Sunil Gavaskar, a former captain of India, praised Umran Malik for his sensational fast bowling, noting that the last Indian player to make him this excited was Sachin Tendulkar.

Umran played his entire season in the T20 league earlier this year before making his India debut in both the ODIs and T20Is. From being signed on as a net bowler during the second part of IPL 2021 in the UAE, Umran has seen his value soar in the blink of an eye.

Currently, Sunil Gavaskar, a legendary batsman, claims that Umran is the second cricketer, after Sachin Tendulkar, who is considered one of the greatest batters to have ever played the game, that he has been most eager to see represent India.

“One player I am most excited to see playing for India after Sachin Tendulkar is Umran Malik,” Gavaskar said on SonyLIV ahead of the second ODI between India and Bangladesh in Dhaka on Wednesday.

The 23-year-old has so far taken a total of five wickets while playing for India in three T20Is and as many ODIs. He replaced Kuldeep Sen, who is out with a back injury after making his India debut on Sunday and is now playing in his fourth ODI.

“I am working on developing new deliveries”: Umran Malik

Umran had mentioned during the New Zealand tour that he was working to add slower deliveries and yorkers to his repertoire while keeping the shortest format in mind.

“I am working on developing new deliveries. Like, I am working on slowers and yorkers for T20s. Also, I am working very well on pitching good-length and hard-length balls. I am enjoying a lot by working alongside the coaches and feels really good,” Umran said.

“It is a national duty for me to perform well when I play for India.” If I do well, I will be able to stay on the squad for a long time. I just want to play for India for a long time and do well, “ Umran Malik Added.

Umran wasn’t a member of the BCCI’s first lineup for the Bangladesh ODIs. A position became available after senior bowler Mohammed Shami’s injury, and the youngster took it.
