Rishabh Pant has received a lot of criticism for his recent performances. His last six white-ball outings have yielded scores of 3, 6, 6, 11, 15, and 10, and although this may not warrant immediate introspection, India may need to reconsider their decision to back Pant in the long run if his poor form does not improve.

After the third and final ODI of the three-match series was called off due to the rain, India finished the series 1-0. Shikhar Dhawan’s team India was bundled out for 219 against the hosts at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch On Wednesday, November 30. The southpaw could only manage to score 10 runs from 16 balls before getting dismissed by Daryl Mitchell.

Rishabh Pant Has Been Given A Long Rope – Rajkumar Sharma

Speaking to India News Sports about Rishabh Pant’s poor performances, Virat Kohli’s childhood coach, Rajkumar Sharma, claimed that India management had given the youngster a long rope. After his recent poor run, Sharma believes that the southpaw should return to domestic cricket.

“Rishabh Pant’s on-field performances have not been satisfactory at all. It is very unfortunate, as he has been given a long rope by the team management. We all know how Virat Kohli showed great faith in Pant during his captaincy. And even after that, he kept on getting many chances. While he has done quite well in red-ball cricket, he has failed to deliver in white-ball cricket,” Sharma said.

“There is no harm in going back and playing domestic cricket when you are not in form. It is always better to work on your basics if you can see that you are struggling in terms of stroke-making. He should play domestic cricket and then make a comeback to the national side,” Kohli’s childhood coach added.

Pant failed to score in the white-ball series against New Zealand. The southpaw scored just 17 runs as an opener in two T20Is, and his struggles continued in the subsequent ODI series, where he scored 25 runs. The left-handed batsman played 66 T20Is and scored 987 runs, including three half-centuries. In 30 ODIs, he scored 855 runs, including a century.
