India vs Bangladesh, IND Playing 11 vs BAN (Predicted), India tour of Bangladesh 2022, 1st ODI.  India and Bangladesh will square off in the first match of the three-match ODI series that begins on the 4th of December at Sher-e- Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Dhaka on 11:30 am.

The Men in Blue have been bolstered with the return of their main senior players and would be looking to end the year on a high. Bangladesh meanwhile, have been dealt a severe blow as captain Tamim Iqbal has been ruled out of the series due to injury while fast bowler Taskin Ahmed is all set to miss the first ODI because of a recurring back issue.

After fielding their second-string side on the tour of New Zealand, India will be happy to welcome Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and KL Rahul to their squad. Rohit Sharma has scored 171 runs in 6 ODIs in 2022 at an average of 34.20 with 2 half-centuries and would be eager to get some solid scores under his belt in this series.

Virat Kohli, too, hasn’t had the greatest of years in ODIs, scoring just 175 runs at an average of 21.87. However, the star Indian batsman has regained his touch in recent months in T20Is (Asia Cup 2022 and T20 World Cup 2022) and one can expect some big scores from him in this series.

Shreyas Iyer is in sensational touch and is India’s best ODI batsman currently by some distance. The right-hander has slammed 566 runs in 11 ODIs at an average of 62.88 with 1 century and 5 half-centuries in 2022. KL Rahul is expected to take up the No.5 slot as he averages 56.62 in that position from 10 ODIs.

Umran Malik (in place of injured Mohammed Shami), Mohammed Siraj, Deepak Chahar, Axar Patel, and Washington Sundar are likely to make India’s bowling unit. Mohammed Siraj has been impressive in ODIs this year, taking 12 wickets at an economy of 4.45. Washington Sundar proved his all-round credentials in New Zealand where he shined as a lower-order batter. The pitches in Bangladesh should suit his bowling.

Umran Malik has been named as the replacement of injured Mohammed Shami in India’s ODI squad for Bangladesh, announced BCCI on Saturday. Mohammed Shami was ruled out of the three-match ODI series after sustaining a shoulder injury suffered during a training session in the lead-up to the series. He didn’t travel to Bangladesh with the rest of the Indian players on December 1. The veteran seamer is currently at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.

India Predicted Playing XI:  Rohit Sharma (c), Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant (wk), Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Deepak Chahar, Umran Malik, Mohammed Siraj

The likes of Shardul Thakur, Ishan Kishan, Shahbaz Ahmed, and an uncapped trio of Rahul Tripathi, Rajat Patidar, and Kuldeep Sen may be benched for the 1st ODI and may get their chances in the next two ODIs.

India announced their squad for the ODI series against Bangladesh on 31 October and recently made changes to it after all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and youngster uncapped pacer Yash Dayal were ruled out due to injuries.

India Squad: Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, Rajat Patidar, Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, Ishan Kishan, Rahul Tripathi, Shahbaz Ahmed, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Umran Malik, Mohammed Siraj, Deepak Chahar, Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Sen

Shikhar Dhawan

Shikhar Dhawan scored 72 in the 1st ODI against New Zealand in the ongoing 3-match ODI series. He had also done well against Zimbabwe in the 1st ODI by scoring 81* and 97 against West Indies in the 1st ODI in the preceding ODI series, but had a poor series against Proteas.

The 37-year-old may bid adieu to international cricket after the conclusion of ODI WC 2023. He has amassed 6775 runs in 164 ODIs averaging 44.87 at a strike rate of 91.54. Shikhar Dhawan’s last ODI century came during the 2019 ICC World Cup match against Australia at the Kennington Oval in London. He has hit 17 ODI tons.

The left-handed batter is a regular member of the team in the ODI format. In 18 ODIs in 2022, Shikhar Dhawan scored 642 runs at an average of 40.13. He has also hit 6 fifties with a top knock of 97 runs.

Rohit Sharma

The right-handed batter and Indian current skipper Rohit Sharma has shown decent form in the 50-over format this year. In 6 ODIs, Rohit Sharma has scored 171 runs in 6 games at an average of 34.20 with 2 half-centuries. Rohit Sharma will open the innings for the team or may bat in the middle order against Sri Lanka in ODIs.

He was rested for the ODI series against Zimbabwe, West Indies, and New Zealand and his last ODI series was against England in July 2022 where he hit 76* in the 1st ODI. He has amassed 9376 runs in 233 ODIs averaging 48.58 which includes a record 3 double tons including the highest recorded individual score of 264.

The 34-year-old middle-order batter run machine Virat Kohli has amassed 12344 runs averaging 57.68 in 262 ODIs but his recent ODI form isn’t that great. But a good show in the Asia Cup 2022 and T20 World Cup 2022, where he was among the leading run-getters, will give him the necessary confidence to return to form in ODIs too.

He has hit 43 ODI tons, the last of which came in August 2019 when he slammed back-to-back tons against West Indies. He is the 2nd highest century scorer in ODIs after Sachin Tendulkar (49 ODI tons) and the 6th highest run-getter in ODIs.

KL Rahul

KL Rahul might be another middle-order batsman for the team in the 2023 ODI World Cup. He may also open the innings. The right-handed batsman has played 7 ODIs this year, in which he slammed 156 runs at an average of 26 in 6 innings.

KL Rahul has also hit 1 half-century but had a strike rate of only 76.1 this year. Overall, the 31-year-old has amassed 1665 runs averaging 45 in 45 ODIs playing 43 innings at a strike rate of 87.86. He will try to be back in form in the ODI series against Bangladesh, where he is also the vice-captain.

Shreyas Iyer

Shreyas Iyer will play instead of Suryakumar Yadav, who isn’t included in the squad for Bangladesh ODIs. India’s Shreyas Iyer is in sublime form in ODIs boasting of an average of 49.24 having amassed 1428 runs in 36 ODIs.

He managed 129 runs against New Zealand averaging 64.5 in 2 innings, and 191 runs against South Africa including a 113* in 3 innings. He is having a phenomenal 2022 in ODIs amassing 615 runs in 14 ODIs (his maximum ODIs in a calendar year) averaging 61.5.

Rishabh Pant

Rishabh Pant, the keeper will compete for the keeper’s slot alongside Ishan Kishan. Rishabh Pant performed poorly in the recent ODI series against New Zealand, where he managed only 25 runs in 2 innings averaging 12.5.

In T20Is too, he is out of form, managing only 9 runs in 2 innings in T20 World Cup 2022 averaging 4.5, and 17 runs in 2 T20Is against Kiwis averaging 8.5.  However, he will be more confident in ODIs after scoring his maiden ton-125* in the 3rd ODI against England in July 2022.

Axar Patel

Axar Patel has picked 53 scalps in 44 ODIs averaging 30.26 with a best of 3/24 coming against Zimbabwe in the 1st ODI. He picked 6 scalps averaging 12.33 against Zimbabwe in the 3-match ODI series. He scored his maiden ODI fifty- a career-best 64* against West Indies in the preceding ODI series. It came off only 35 balls, showcasing his potential as an all-rounder. He didn’t play against New Zealand as he wasn’t named in the squad.

Axar Patel’s confidence though will also be low for having a poor T20 World Cup 2022, where he picked only 3 scalps in 5 T20Is averaging 38.33 at an economy rate of 8.63.

Washington Sundar

Washington Sundar has been injured prone but being an off-spinner is an ideal replacement for off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who may be dropped from ODI World Cup 2023 squad as he had an underwhelming T20 World Cup 2022.

Washington Sundar debuted way back in December 2017 but has only featured in 9 ODIs where he picked 8 scalps averaging 34.13. He may be included in ODI WC 2023 squad for his age of 23 years being on his side and he’s an off-spinner unlike wrist spinners Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav. He, however, failed to pick a single scalp in the recently concluded New Zealand ODI series which was marred by rain.

Deepak Chahar

Deepak Chahar has featured in only 11 ODIs since debuting in the 50-over format way back in the 2018 Asia Cup as his career was plagued by injuries. He has picked 15 scalps in 11 ODIs averaging 29.67. He was wicketless in the previous ODI series against New Zealand (0/30 in 5 overs) but had picked 5 scalps in 2 games against Zimbabwe in the preceding series averaging 20.4.

Umran Malik

Umran Malik debuted in ODIs along with left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh in the 3-match ODI series against New Zealand. He was added as a last-minute replacement for the injured veteran pacer Mohammed Shami for the Bangladesh series.

He may be in India’s starting XI ahead of the likes of Shardul Thakur and Kuldeep Sen in the 1st ODI against Bangladesh. In 3 ODIs, the express pacer has picked 3 scalps averaging 32.33 but in 3 T20Is, he has picked 2 scalps averaging 56. His economy rate is 6.46 in ODIs and 12.44 in T20Is.

Mohammed Siraj

Mohammed Siraj will fight out for a place in India’s 2023 ODI World Cup squad. Mohammed Siraj debuted in ODIs way back in January 2019 but has played sporadically featuring in 13 ODIs where he picked 18 scalps averaging 28.17. His career-best figures of 3/29 came against West Indies in February 2022.
