‘Captain Courageous’ Rohit Sharma did the unthinkable as he batted with an injured thumb in the second ODI of the India tour of Bangladesh 2022 and played an absolutely outstanding knock.

The second ODI of the three-match series between Rohit Sharma-led India and Litton Das-led Bangladesh was played at Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur on Wednesday, December 7.

In the second over of the first innings, Rohit Sharma sustained a thumb injury while fielding in the slip cordon and walked off the field in pain to get some treatment. KL Rahul, the designated vice-captain, took over the captaincy responsibility in the absence of Rohit.

Notably, the 35-year-old was fielding at second slip when the right-arm pacer Mohammed Siraj drew an outside edge from Bangladesh opener Anamul Haque. The ball went towards Rohit Sharma, but he could not hold on as the ball dipped on him, even though he got both hands to it and in the process, he ended up hurting his thumb.

Also, he was assessed by the Board of Control for Cricket Team (BCCI) medical team and was sent for scans.

Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma came out to bat with an injured thumb after the dismissal of Shardul Thakur in the 43rd over during the run-chase.

Rohit Sharma played a spectacular knock of 51* runs at a brilliant strike rate of 182.14. His innings consisted of 3 fours and 5 sixes. However, his valiant effort went in vain as India lost the match by 5 runs.

Speaking at the post-match presentation ceremony, Rohit Sharma revealed that he has fortunately not fractured his thumb.
