Amazing Week On The Pitch But Disappointed To Hear Reports Of Racist Abuse - Ben Stokes
England captain Ben Stokes was displeased upon hearing about the incident at Edgbaston on Day 4 of the fifth and final Test against India. Several reports surfaced that claimed that the Indian fans were racially abused.
Stokes and co. pulled off a win for the ages on the pitch but the victory was marred after a section of fans made racial gestures against the visiting fans in the stands.
Taking to Twitter, Stokes said that the crowd is expected to create a good atmosphere where everybody can enjoy and that racism has no place in the sport.
“Amazing week on the pitch but really disappointed to hear reports of racist abuse at Edgbaston. Absolutely no place for it in the game. Hope all the fans at the white-ball series have a brilliant time and create a party atmosphere. That’s what cricket’s about!!” Stokes tweeted.
“We have had a lot of people turning up to games” – Ben Stokes
Speaking after the game, Stokes said that the fans don’t know what to expect from the invigorated England side and they turn up to be part of the exciting journey.
“We have always had unbelievable support in England, no matter what we have gone through as a team, but now I think we are getting a different, new group of fans.”
The series ended in a 2-2 draw following the stunning 7-wicket win for England, who were lagging for the first three days but made up for it in tremendous fashion in the last two days.
