Danish Kaneria, a former cricketer for Pakistan, criticized India’s head coach Rahul Dravid and questioned why experienced off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was not included in the fifth Test match between England and India.

The playing XI for India in the rescheduled game did not include the 35-year-old Ashwin, who is ranked second among Test bowlers and all-rounders. The talented spinner’s exclusion meant that he was unable to participate in any matches during the 2021–22 tour.

On the final day of the Test match, England seemed ready to attempt a record total at Edgbaston. With just 119 runs needed and seven wickets left, England was well-positioned for the game’s final day thanks to three half-centuries on Day 4. The hero of the English performance was Alex Lees, who teamed up with opener Zack Crawley to give the hosts a strong start with a partnership of 107 runs for the first wicket.

India added 245 runs to their second innings total, which they used to set a 378-run goal for England. In response, Joe Root (76*) and Jonny Bairstow (72*) raised their fifty-run threshold after Alex Lees (56) and Zak Crawley (46) formed a 107-run opening combination.

‘India made the mistake and paying the price’: Danish Kaneria

As the bowlers struggled to take wickets on Day 4, Danish Kaneria claimed that the Indian squad is suffering as a result of a poor selection decision.

“At Edgbaston, team India went from winning to losing position. Why Ravichandran Ashwin was not selected for the starting lineup? Dravid, who decided after playing so much cricket in England as a coach, is well aware of the conditions because it is summer there when the wickets bake and dry out and the ball begins to spin on day three wherever there is seam due to moisture” Danish Kaneria said.

“Only Bumrah appears to have superhuman abilities. India erred and is now paying the consequences “On the Koo application, Danish Kaneria remarked.

At stumps, England is on 259 for the loss of three wickets. The hosts must win the fifth Test by 119 runs to tie the series at 2-2.
