ENG vs IND: Hanuma Vihari, Cheteshwar Pujara, Shreyas Iyer In Wasim Jaffer's Playing XI For Edgbaston Test
Former cricketer Wasim Jaffer opted to have Cheteshwar Pujara open the innings alongside Shubman Gill in the absence of Rohit Sharma for the fifth and final Test against England in Edgbaston.
Rohit was ruled out after he contracted the covid-19 virus. Jasprit Bumrah has been named as the skipper of the side while Rishabh Pant will be acting as the fast bowler???s deputy.
Having impressed in the home series against Sri Lanka earlier this year, Shreyas Iyer found a place in Jaffer???s team. Virat Kohli and Hanuma Vihari form the rest of the batting order with Pant and all-rounder, Ravindra Jadeja.
Notably, Jaffer mentioned that Ravichandran Ashwin???s experience trumps the explosive nature of Shardul Thakur. The previous time around, Ashwin was left out of the playing XI in all the four matches played in England.
Thakur was impressive during the tour, scoring three fifties and also picking up wickets at crucial intervals. Expectedly, Bumrah will be leading the pace attack with Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj to back him up.
