Former India cricketer Mohammad Kaif showered praise on veteran India batter Cheteshwar Pujara for making a comeback to the side after getting dropped from the Test team.

Pujara along with Ajinkya Rahane, Wriddhiman Saha and Ishant Sharma was dropped from the Indian Test squad ahead of the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka at home.

After being dropped from the Test side Pujara played a few Ranji Trophy games before travelling to England for the County Championship. He performed exceptionally well for Sussex in England and smashed 4 consecutive centuries, including two double centuries.

After his stellar run for Sussex, Pujara got his India recall for the one-off Test against England National Cricket Team.

The 5th and last Test match of the series between India and England, which was cancelled last year due to the Covid-19 outbreak in the Indian camp, will be played at the Edgbaston, Birmingham from Friday, July 1.

Speaking to NDTV during a media interaction, Kaif hailed Pujara for the comeback and said that he is an example for any young player who has been dropped and wants to make a comeback. He added that Pujara, with the return to the Test squad, will take back his No.3 spot in the playing XI.

“You can learn so much from Pujara. If you get dropped, what do you have to do as a batter? You go back to County, you go back to Ranji and you score runs and runs and I mean, score tons and tons of runs. He has done that.”

“He’s an example for any young player who has been dropped and how to make a comeback. Probably you should go back to Pujara and watch what he has done in the last couple of months. He has been a fantastic player for India also. And I think he’ll play No.3 for India.”
