Stand-in captain Jasprit Bumrah created an elite record with his spell of 3/68 during England’s first innings at Edgbaston overtaking his Indian teammate Bhuvneshwar Kumar. England were bowled out for 284 in their first innings in response to India’s first innings total of 416.

The visitors started their second innings with a lead of 132 and by the end of day three had a lead of 257 runs as they ended at 125/3. Cheteshwar Pujara was unbeaten on 50 while Rishabh Pant batting on 30. India lost two quick wickets and the big wicket of  Virat Kohli for 20 at the fag end of day 3.

Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah dismissed England’s top-order to reach at 21 wickets in the season so far overtaking Bhuvi’s tally of 19 wickets he took in the 2014 series. Mohammed Siraj took four wickets in the first innings to take his tally to 18 wickets in the series and Mohammed Shami took two to take his tally to 13 wickets in the series. Shardul Thakur took the key wicket of Ben Stokes in the second innings. In the second innings, India again lost two quick wickets of Shubman Gill (4) and Hanuma Vihari (11) before Kohli and Pujara started the repair job which was touched upon further by Pant.

Team India was leading the series 2-1 before the fifth Test was postponed after a covid outbreak in the Indian camp. Both the boards then found a window in July 2022 to host a full-fledged series starting with the 5th Test in Edgbaston. The two teams play three T20Is and three ODIs after the end of the Test match. The T20I series starts on July 7 in Southampton.
