The India vs England ODI series continues with the second ODI to be played at Lord’s on July 14.
The visitors are ahead by 1-0 in the three-match ODI series after winning the first ODI at The Oval by 10 wickets. Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan played unbeaten knocks to chase down 111 to win.
England after their historic win in the 5th Test have been put on the backfoot as India won the T20I series 2-1 and are leading the ODI series as well now. They will be hungry to make a comeback in the series as they face a must-win situation heading into the second game.
Their batsmen need to step up after faltering in a big way in the first ODI. None of their batsmen could defend the moving ball coming out from the hands of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami. Their top four batsmen were all dismissed for ducks limiting their run-scoring opportunity.
For India, they seem to have found a way of troubling the England batters with pace and swing. Bumrah took his career-best figures in ODIs taking 6/19 and joining an elite list of Indian bowlers to take six wickets against England.
One big concern in the Indian camp seems to be Virat Kohli’s form and now his injury. He was ruled out of the first ODI with a groin injury and there is no update on whether he will play the second.
“Virat has a groin strain during last game. It can’t be confirmed whether it happened during fielding or while batting. He will probably miss first ODI tomorrow at Oval as the groin needs rest,” a BCCI source told PTI on condition of anonymity.
Bumrah who was also asked regarding Kohli’s injury status said he does not know much about it and an update on him is awaited. “I don’t know the status of his injury because I did not play the last game (3rd T20I). Hopefully, he recovers, but I really don’t know the status of his injury,” he said in the post-match press conference.
