England pacer James Anderson revealed that Jonny Bairstow was amused at the sledging in the fifth and final Test against India which England comfortably won by seven wickets.

Bairstow was in the initial stages of his knock when he exchanged a few words with Virat Kohli. Having struggled up until then, the Yorkshire batter’s mindset changed completely and he began pummeling the attack before bringing up his 11th Test hundred.

Jonny was 80 not out and Virat had been going at him and sledging him a lot. I don’t know if you saw the strike-rate difference? His strike rate was about 20 before Virat started sledging him and about 150 after.

His first words back in the dressing room at lunch were, ‘When will they learn to shut it?’ If there’s somebody you don’t want to rub up the wrong way, it is Jonny Bairstow,” Anderson told on Tailenders Podcast.

“I am stripping it back to the basics” – Jonny Bairstow

Bairstow said that he has been trying to get the basics right, something that has worked brilliantly for him this year. He has hundreds against West Indies, Australia, New Zealand, and India in the last few months making him the top-scorer this year in Tests.

It is great fun at the moment. The last month has been fantastic for the lads and the smiles on their faces when everyone does well is a massive part of it.

I am stripping it back to the basics. The last few years have been tough on me but the last few months have been fantastic. Fair play to everyone who went through that,” Bairstow said after accepting the Player of the Match award.
