India takes on England in the second ODI at Lord’s on July 14 looking to complete a series win. The Rohit-Sharma-led side won the first ODI by 10 wickets and is leading the series 1-0 at this point.
The team is on a winning spree since the T20Is. Rohit Sharma is back as the Indian captain and the team is looking complete from every angle. The first ODI performance was especially a cherry on the cake when it comes to a clinical overseas performance. Jasprit Bumrah ran riot with the bat and the openers secured the chase in less than 20 overs.
Meanwhile, the availability of Virat Kohli remains a concern ahead of the second ODI. Reports are saying that he is not yet fit from his groin injury and might miss the second ODI.
“Virat Kohli and Arshdeep Singh were not considered for selection for the first ODI against England. Virat has a mild groin strain while Arshdeep has a right abdominal strain. The BCCI Medical Team is monitoring them,” BCCI wrote on its official Twitter handle ahead of the first ODI. This was backed up by an ANI report almost confirming his absence from the second ODI as well.
IND vs ENG: India’s Predicted Playing XI Against England, 2nd ODI
Rohit Sharma (C)
Rohit scored an unbeaten 76 in the chase of 111 as he went past 250 ODI sixes during his knock. He and Shikhar Dhawa also went past 5000 ODI runs batting together.
Shikhar Dhawan
Dhawan scored an unbeaten 31 off 54 balls with four boundaries. He played second fiddle to Rohit and spent some time at the crease after making a comeback to the ODI side.
Shreyas Iyer
In the likely absence of Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer will continue to bat at number three. He has been troubled by short-pitched deliveries in this series and needs to work out his technique.
Suryakumar Yadav
After scoring an almost match-winning century in the final T20I, SKY did not get his chance with the bat in the first ODI. However, he now has almost cemented his place in the team’s white-ball squads. He will bat at number four.
Rishabh Pant (WK)
Pant took three brilliant catches behind the stumps in the first ODI. However, he too did not get his chance with the bat. He scored a brilliant century in the Test match and is in good form in recent times.
Hardik Pandya
Pandya at number six gives tremendous balance to this Indian team. Skipper Rohit Sharma and even Virat Kohli repeatedly spoke about his importance in the side. In the first ODI, he bowled four overs for 22 runs.
Ravindra Jadeja
Jadeja at number seven lengthens India’s batting lineup and provides a better combination to the side. With the conditions favouring the batters, he did not get his chance with the ball in the first ODI. However, he will play in the second ODI.
Mohammed Shami
Shami picked 3/31 from his seven overs and got the ball to swing both in and out. He made the batsmen play and miss a lot of deliveries and eventually dismissed three big wickets.
Jasprit Bumrah
Bumrah picked his career-best ODI figures of 6/19 in the first ODI. In the process, he joined an elite list of Indian bowlers to pick six wickets against England in ODIs.
Yuzvendra Chahal
Chahal is the second specialist spinner in this playing Xi. He bowled just two overs in the game as there was not much assistance for the spinners. He is expected to bowl a lot more at Lord’s.
Prasidh Krishna
Krishna bowled five overs in the game and picked up one wicket. He thus completes a five-man bowling attack that India should look to field at Lord’s with Pandya as the sixth bowling option.
