India National Cricket Team head coach Rahul Dravid showered praise on the young wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant and star all-rounder Hardik Pandya for their sensational performances in the ODI series decider against England at the Old Trafford, Manchester.
Pant and Pandya had a crucial 133-run partnership for the 5th wicket in the third and final ODI against England that helped India win the match by 5 wickets and the series by 2-1.
The 24-year-old Pant smashed an unbeaten 125 runs off just 113 deliveries, including 16 fours and 2 sixes, and the 28-year-old Hardik smashed 71 runs off 55 balls, including 10 fours.
Speaking to the BCCI, India head coach Dravid said that the way Pant and Hardik responded to the pressure was absolutely fantastic.
“The way Hardik and Rishabh responded, was absolutely superb. It was really good to see them (do well) under pressure with the series on the line. To play an innings like Hardik did and like Rishabh did, it was pretty heartening for us,” Dravid told the BCCI.
I thought he was truly exceptional – Rahul Dravid on Hardik Pandya
Dravid further said that the Player of the Series, Hardik, was truly exceptional with the ball. He also lauded the bowling unit for restricting England to a below-par total in the third ODI.
“He (Hardik) was fantastic with the ball, I thought he was truly exceptional. That was a really good wicket. To be able to restrict a team like England for 260, was a really good effort,” Dravid said.
“We picked up a few wickets up front, they built a partnership. But I thought our tactics and our strategy was absolutely brilliant. At the backend, to bowl the short ball and put the fielders in place, a real credit to the team and the captain for working out the strategies and executing them well,” he added.
