Rishabh Pant’s bold action to step up to the stumps for Bhuvneshwar Kumar during the second T20I match against England was praised by former Team India keeper-batter Parthiv Patel.

The strategy was successful for India as Pant made a spectacular catch of Jos Buttler (4) off a ball from Bhuvneshwar that was swinging away. While attempting to chase down 171, England was unable to bounce back and fell to 121 all out.

Patel claims that India choked Buttler by pulling the keeper up, which ultimately caused him to take a false shot. The former cricketer shared his thoughts on the dismissal on Cricbuzz and stated:

“The wicketkeeper standing up to the stumps for Bhuvneshwar was a proactive move. They (India) restricted Buttler, telling him that if you want to counter the effect of the swing, you need to come out of the crease and hit the ball.

Also, since the keeper was up, Buttler couldn’t stand out of his crease. Credit must go to Pant for taking that catch while standing up.”

With Saturday’s dismissal, Bhuvneshwar Kumar has now eliminated the England captain twice in as many games. In the opening T20I, the seasoned pacer dismissed Buttler for a golden duck.

Bhuvneshwar has reportedly used his expertise against Buttler, which has led to him dismissing the England skipper in back-to-back matches, according to former Indian left-arm seamer RP Singh. He elaborated:

“Bhuvneshwar has the experience. Look at the lengths he has bowled. Everyone knows that Buttler is troubled by inswinging deliveries (referring to first T20I dismissal).

Because some bowlers have played a lot of games, they have an idea about what is the best ball to bowl to get a particular batter out. Bhuvneshwar is doing exactly that.”

He continued, praising the 32-year-old Indian pacer, saying:

“Bhuvneshwar has been bowling well, but picking wickets while bowling well is a skill in itself. He has the ability to swing the ball both ways. Taking wickets always breaks the back of the opposition. Today (Saturday) we also saw something different, the keeper standing up to him, to stop the batter from stepping out.”

In the second T20I, Bhuvneshwar was named Player of the Match after returning with three for 15. He also ejected Jason Roy (zero) and Richard Gleeson in addition to Buttler (two).
