Former England captain Michael Vaughan while talking about India making wholesale changes for the 3rd T20I against England at the Trent Bridge in Nottingham said that he is surprised to see India making a lot of changes to the playing XI.

India, just like the second T20I at the Edgbaston in Birmingham, made four big changes to the playing XI as Ravi Bishnoi, Avesh Khan, Umran Malik and Shreyas Iyer replaced Yuzvendra Chahal, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya.

Vaughan said that the English openers Jos Buttler and Jason Roy would be happy with India’s move to drop Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who troubled them in the first two games. He added that Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Hardik Pandya shouldn’t have been dropped from the playing XI.

“Jason Roy and Jos Buttler can breathe easy when they come out to bat today as they don’t have to face Bhuvneshwar Kumar. I am surprised they have gone with so many changes. As a player’s perspective, you wanna play, you want to be in form. Bhuvi is in form, Hardik is in form.

“If Hardik has some issue with his body, then it is a different conversation. I would never do that. I am really looking forward to Umran Malik, but I really don’t like all this tinkering in modern game,” he told Cricbuzz.

Former India pacer Zaheer Khan, during the same discussion, said that the right-arm pacer Bhuvneshwar should have played the 3rd game because he was in good touch.

“I still felt Bhuvneshwar Kumar could have continued because he was in good nick. He is someone who couldn’t have been consistent due to injury issues. He is not been playing consistently so game time for him could have been big,” Zaheer said.

“You have to use the strengths that put you here in the first place. Everyone took notice of him (Umran Malik) because he was running in hard and bowling quickly. And he was hurrying the batters, so has to stick with it. Look at these three stumps, run in as hard as possible, bowl in as hard as possible,” said Zaheer when asked about giving tip to the young pacer.
