Former India opener Virender Sehwag criticised India National Cricket Team after their fifth and final rescheduled Test match against England National Cricket Team at the Edgbaston, Birmingham.

India lost the Edgbaston Test against England by 7 wickets after the hosts chased down 378 runs in the 4th innings, which was the highest successful run-chase by England in the history of Test cricket and the highest successful run-chase at the Edgbaston Birmingham.

Meanwhile, Sehwag asserted that only Rishabh Pant and Cheteshwar Pujara scored runs for India among the top-six batters and the bowlers were listless in the 4th innings of the match. He also said that India need to address the issues in the team as soon as possible.

“India have quite a few issues to address. Only Pujara and Pant in the top-six are scoring runs. Jadeja batting brilliantly but we need top-order batters to be in form. Bowling in the fourth innings was absolutely listless,” Sehwag posted.

Sehwag labelled former England captain Joe Root as the world’s best Test batter. Notably, Root was in a different league in the 5-match Test series against India as he scored 737 runs, including 4 centuries and one half-century.

“Fourth Test hundred of the series for this amazing run machine, Joe Root. The best test batsman in the world right now. Congratulations England on your highest successful run chase,” Sehwag tweeted.

Legendary India batter Sachin Tendulkar also applauded Root for his batting brilliance in the series against India.

“Special win by England to level the series. Joe Root & Jonny Bairstow have been in sublime form and made batting look very easy. Congratulations to England on a convincing victory,” he stated.
