Rohit Sharma was in top form as he helped India defeat England’s modest 111-run goal by scoring an unbeaten 76 in 58 balls. As Rohit led India to a ten-wicket victory at the Oval, he regularly chose balls that were short of or even at a length and pulled them for sixes.

Rohit surpassed numerous milestones in his innings. In doing so, they broke the 5000-run mark together with opening partner Shikhar Dhawan.

Rohit Sharma Breaks Another Record

On a more personal level, though, it led to Rohit surpassing Kane Williamson’s total runs scored in ODIs in England. Williamson has 1393 runs in English conditions, and with his innings, Rohit became the first ever foreign batsman to surpass 1400 runs. He currently has 1411 runs in 25 innings.

In this series, Rohit will play two more ODIs, and given his current form, reaching 1500 is still very much a possibility. Rohit has always loved playing 50-over cricket in England, and he had four hundreds there during the 2019 World Cup. He also had a successful tour with India in 2018 and made his debut in the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy winning team as an opener.

The Men in Blue won the T20I series against their hosts 2-1 under the leadership of Rohit, who has since been named the team’s all-format captain. They are currently up 1-0 in the ODI series, and India’s record with both the bat and the ball is quite encouraging.

India will stay in London to play the second ODI at Lord’s and will look to secure a victory there to extend their series advantage. The third and final ODI will take place in Manchester after this.

The main worries before these games will be over Virat Kohli’s health and condition, but with Rohit looking in amazing form, their supporters will have faith that the ODI squad’s prowess in batting and bowling will prevail.
