Rohit Sharma continued to break records on Thursday, July 7, as the great Indian batsman became the first skipper to ever win 13 straight T20 International games as India thrashed England by 50 runs in the opening game of a three-match T20I series in Southampton.

Rohit Sharma increased his victory streak to 13, which he started soon after India’s failure at the T20 World Cup last year. Notably, Rohit recovered from Covid-19 to captain India against England in the first T20I, despite the fact that the Test regulars, who were there for the 5th Test’s rescheduled date, were rested for the game.

Rohit Sharma Gives India Strong Start

With a quickfire 24 off just 14 deliveries, Rohit Sharma took the initiative and set a strong foundation for the other big-hitters to build upon. Thanks to cameos from Rohit, Deepak Hooda, and Suryakumar Yadav as well as a game-winning fifty from Hardik Pandya, India scored 198 on the board.

Jos Buttler’s England could only muster 148 in response as Hardik shined with 4 wickets, becoming the first Indian player to score a fifty and take four wickets in the same T20I encounter. Young Arshdeep Singh made an impression with his first two wickets, while veteran bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar claimed the important wicket of Buttler, dismissing him on a duck.

Notably, Rohit has guided India to victories over Sri Lanka and the West Indies by scores of 3-0 each, as well as 3-0 sweeps over New Zealand at home. Rohit’s winning streak started in November 2019 when he captained India against Bangladesh at home. It also includes their 5-0 thrashing of New Zealand in 2019.

Notably, Rohit skipped both the two T20Is in Ireland and the 5-match T20I series India played against South Africa in June.
