Virat Kohli has not been among the runs for more than a year and his selection gets pinpointed with every series passing by now and then. Kohli’s lean patch with the bat has been in the limelight since the time he relinquished Indian team captaincy from all formats.
Kohli scored 11 and 20 in the rescheduled fifth Test against England, which India lost by seven wickets and levelled the series 2-2. He was rested for the first T20I but returned with scores of 1 and 10 in the next two games.
Virar Kohli scored 16 vs England in the 2nd ODI
The senior Indian player missed the first ODI due to a groin injury but returned in the next game after regaining full fitness. Kohli started his innings at Lord’s with three tremendous shots to England pacer Reece Topley, the first two went past mid-on and mid-off before the third one was played with a straight bat that was sent through the extra cover region.
Before Kohli could make a statement on his form, England left-arm pacer David Willey trapped him against his weakness, pitching him outside the off stump and forcing him to nick behind the stumps. Kohli departed on 16 as India were bowled out for 140 and lost by 100 runs.
Only Sachin Tendulkar can relate to what Virat Kohli is going through: Ajay Jadeja
Former Indian cricketer Ajay Jadeja believes only Sachin Tendulkar can fathom what Kohli is currently feeling like. Jadeja wants his former teammate to have an open conversation with Kohli regarding his rough patch with the bat.
“I said this 8 months ago when we were talking about this. I said the only man who can relate to what Virat Kohli is going through is Tendulkar. The only man who he should give a call and say, ‘let’s have a drink together. Have a nice meal’. Because who else, since starting at age 14 or 15, never had a bad patch? Only moved forward, and reached the heights Tendulkar had reached?” Jadeja said in on Sony SIX.
“I can’t think of anyone else, because I believe that everything is in the mind. So, he is a call away from Tendulkar. I hope even if Virat doesn’t call… it’s actually Sachin who should give him a call. Sometimes, young people are in that phase. When you are older, since you have been through that, it’s your duty to make that call. I hope Master does that,” Jadeja further said.
India will play against England in the series decider match at Old Trafford in Manchester on July 17.
