IND vs ENG: Sanjana Ganesan Reveals How Jasprit Bumrah's Mother Reacted After His Appointment As Test Captain

Indian television presenter Sanjana Ganesan, who is the wife of premier India National Cricket Team pacer Jasprit Bumrah, has revealed the reaction of Bumrah’s mother, Daljit Bumrah, after he was appointed as India’s captain for the rescheduled Test match against England.

India all-format captain Rohit Sharma was tested positive for Covid-19 during the warm-up match between India and Leicestershire and there were doubts over his participation in the rescheduled Test match against England.

Meanwhile, Sanjana Ganesan said that Bumrah’s mother is excited to see him lead the team against England. Ganesan also revealed that Bumrah’s mother had tons of tips and tricks for the pacer ahead of his first assignment as an India skipper.

“She’s very excited. She’s always liked to see him do well because he loves the sport, and she’s seen the entire journey he’s gone through to get to where he is. She was ecstatic when she found out.

“She had tons of tips and tricks, even though she’s never played cricket herself! As a mother does, she told him, ‘This should be how you think, and this should be what you do. It was very nice to see, and she was very happy and proud of him,” Ganesan said while speaking to the ICC.

Ganesan also talked about the reaction of Indian pacer Bumrah after he was given the opportunity to lead India in Test cricket. She said:

“[Bumrah] got a lot of time to absorb and understand that this was happening. He’s proud and very happy about it. I don’t know if there are a few nerves, but he’s had enough time to absorb it all.”

Meanwhile, Bumrah will become the first pacer to lead India in Test cricket since the legendary pace-bowling all-rounder Kapil Dev in 1987. Also, Bumrah will become the 36th captain to lead India in Test cricket.

The 5th and last Test match of the series between India and England, which was cancelled last year due to the Covid-19 scare in the Indian camp, will be played at the Edgbaston, Birmingham from Friday, July 1.
