England and India face off in a three-match ODI series after the end of the T20I series. The first ODI will be played at the Oval in London on July 12. Rohit Sharma led India to a 2-1 T20I series win after India lost the fifth Test at Edgbaston.

The BCCI announced a 17-member Indian team with all the senior players back in the squad. The focus yet again will be on Virat Kohli and how he bats in this ODI series. He failed to live up to the expectations in the T20I series. There are reports that Kohli’s form in the ODI series will decide his fate in his participation in the T20 World Cup later this year. However, Rohit Sharma has backed Kohli to the hilt.

England, on the other hand, are also going through a transition in their white-ball squad post-Eoin Morgan’s retirement. Jos Buttler is the new white-ball skipper of the side. He was out of form in the T20I series and needs to get back to runs in the ODIs. He will have Jonny Bairstow, Ben Stokes and Joe Root back in the ODI to bolster the batting line-up. Root will replace Morgan in the playing XI.

The weather in London for first India vs England ODI will be very warm with intervals of clouds and sunshine as per Accuweather. The match starts at 5.30 pm IST (1 pm local time). The afternoon weather will be warm with a high of 30 degrees. There will be 70 per cent cloud cover. By the evening, the temperatures will drop down to 20-23 degrees.

So far the Kia Oval ground has hosted 75 ODIs with teams batting first winning 30 times while the team chasing winning 41 times. India won both the T20IS batting first and putting up a huge score.

They would be expected to play by the same template. Chasing though is India’s stronger suit in recent times in white-ball cricket. England chased down a score of above 350 in the fourth innings in Southampton. They would also like to chase keeping in mind their “Bazball” strategy.
