England National Cricket Team explosive batter Jonny Bairstow smashed a remarkable century in the second innings of the 5th and final Test match against Jasprit Bumrah-led India National Cricket Team at the Edgbaston, Birmingham on Tuesday, July 5.
The Yorkshire wicketkeeper-batsman Jonny Bairstow has been revolutionary for England in the new era under captain Ben Stokes and head coach Brendon McCullum.
ICC Teams Rankings | ICC Players Rankings
Bairstow has been in the form of his life in 2022 as in his first 79 games in the purest format of game he had smashed only 6 centuries and in the year 2022, he has played only 8 games and has already smashed 6 terrific centuries.
Bairstow was heading into the one-off Test against India with wonderful form under his belt as he had smashed two back-to-back centuries in the Test series against New Zealand, where England won by 3-0.
Meanwhile, in the first innings of England in the Edgbaston Test against India, he scored brilliant 106 runs off 140 balls, including 14 fours and 2 sixes, and helped England reach a decent total.
In England’s second innings, he once again looked in fine touch and he had a remarkable match-winning partnership with former England captain Joe Root.
Bairstow completed his century off 138 balls on the final day of the match and scored an unbeaten 114 runs off 145 balls, including 15 fours and 1 six, to help England complete the historic 378 run-chase.
Notably, England registered both their highest-ever Test run-chase and highest fourth-innings run-chase at Edgbaston. Also, the five-match Test series ended in a 2-2 draw.
Meanwhile, with the century in both the innings of the Test match against India, Bairstow has become the first England player to make a century in both innings of a Test match since Andrew Strauss’ century in 2008 against India in Chennai.
Also, Jonny Bairstow is the highest run-getter in Test cricket in the year 2022. He has played 8 games and smashed 994 runs at an amazing average of 76.46 and a strike rate of 76.22, including 6 centuries and one half-century. He was awarded Player of the Match for his performance in the one-off Test against India.

CENTURY! FOUR IN A ROW! What batting from Jonny Bairstow. Ever since his come back to the Test side, he has scored runs but getting on a roll like this, is stupendous stuff. Some absolutely brilliant batting on viewing, a clear mindset, playing his best game. Excellent stuff.

What a result for England and what a thrashing. Terrific comeback from the mini collapse yesterday. Little else to say about Root’s imperiousness but the summer belongs to Bairstow.

A month ago, neither Joe Root nor Jonny Bairstow had a fourth innings hundred in Test cricket. Now they have two each, as well as a 70+ red inker each in a successful chase.
