India National Cricket Team captain Hardik Pandya has become the first Indian captain to pick a wicket in the T20 International (T20I) cricket.
Hardik Pandya achieved this tremendous milestone in the first match of the two-match T20I series against Andrew Balbirnie-led Ireland National Cricket Team at The Village, Malahide, Dublin on Sunday, June 26.
Notably, Hardik Pandya is leading India for the very first time in his career. He was given the captaincy responsibility in the absence of Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul from the team.
Hardik Pandya made his debut as a skipper in the Indian Premier League 2022 and he performed exceptionally well for his team, Gujarat Titans (GT). Also, he led the debutants Gujarat Titans (GT) to the IPL 2022 triumph.
After his success in the Indian Premier League 2022, he was appointed as Rishabh Pant’s deputy for the five-match T20I series against South Africa, which ended in a 2-2 draw.
Hardik Pandya Dismisses Paul Stirling In First T20I To Become First Indian Captain To Pick A Wicket In T20 Internationals
Hardik Pandya came to bowl the second over of the match against Ireland and he was able to pick a huge wicket of the star batter Paul Stirling, who was able to score only 4 runs off 5 balls.
Hardik bowled a slightly fuller length delivery just outside off to Stirling and the Ireland opener went for an on-rise shot but the ball didn’t bounce as much as he expected and he was only able to slice it off the bottom of the bat to Deepak Hooda, who ran back from mid-off to grab the catch.
Meanwhile, Hardik Pandya, today became the 9th T20I captain to lead India National Cricket Team. Before Hardik, Virender Sehwag, MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Ajinkya Rahane, Suresh Raina and Rishabh Pant led India but none of the captains was able to pick a wicket in T20 Internationals.
