Premier India all-rounder Hardik Pandya, while talking about pace bowling sensation Umran Malik, said that the express pacer may get a chance to complete his bowling quota in the second T20I against Ireland.
The first match of the two-match T20I series between the India National Cricket Team and Ireland National Cricket Team was played at The Village, Malahide, Dublin on Sunday, June 26. The match commenced after a delayed start and it was reduced to 12 overs per side due to rain.
Meanwhile, the right-arm express pacer Umran Malik made his India debut in the match by replacing Harshal Patel in the playing XI. The debut was not an ideal one for the young pacer as he came to bowl his first over in the 6th over of the match and leaked 18 runs in the over.
After that, the Indian captain, Hardik, didn’t give bowling to the express pacer and he used his other bowlers.
He’ll be more comfortable with the older ball – Hardik Pandya on Umran Malik
Speaking after the match, Hardik said that it was important for the Indian team to start the series with a win.
“Great to start a series with a win. For us as a team, it’s very important to start with a win. Quite happy with it,” Pandya said at the post-match press conference.
He further talked about giving only one over to Umran in the first T20I.
“He’s been fantastic for his franchise (Umran Malik). But I felt, also had a chat with him, he’ll be more comfortable with the older ball. Ireland batted fantastically, had to go back to our main bowlers. Maybe next game he’ll have a full chance,” Pandya added.
Ireland batter Harry Tector played fantastic innings in the match as he smashed 64 runs off 33 balls, including 6 fours and 3 sixes. The Indian captain was highly impressed with Tector’s batting performance and he showered praise on the batter.
“Some of the shots Harry played had me in awe. Look forward to him developing and taking Irish cricket again,” he concluded.
