The 3rd ODI between India and New Zealand was called off due to rain. The Men in Blue would be dejected as they weren’t able to win the ODI series and the 1st ODI performance would hurt them a lot as they weren’t able to defend a mammoth 307 runs. Skipper Shikhar Dhawan would rue the fact that he couldn’t get a big score under his belt.

New Zealand’s bowlers were quite disciplined in their line and length in the 3rd ODI. The decision to add Adam Milne in the place of the all-rounder Michael Bracewell proved to be a turning point as the pacer took 3 scalps for 57 runs in his spell of 10 overs.

Shikhar Dhawan on Sanju Samson & Rishabh Pant

Shikhar Dhawan was seen attending the post-match press conference and was asked about the duo Pant & Samson.

“(Mushkil as such nahi hai. Jaise Rishabh hai… usne England mein one-day khela hai. Waha pe uska 100 tha so uske baad of course, jiss player ne 100 banaya hai usey back kiya jata hai. Har ek cheez larger picture dekh ke kari jaati hai. Agar koi match-winner player hai toh usko back karna hai. Bade saare cheezon ko analyse karke hi decision liye jaate hain,” said Shikhar Dhawan.

“Of coruse, Sanju Samson bada achha kar raha hai. Woh apni jagah… usko jitne mauke mile hain usne achha kara hai. But sometimes, achha karne ke bawajood wait karna padta hai kyuki pehle player ne kaafi achha kara hota hai.

“And uski jo skill hai, humein pata hota hai ki woh match-winner hai. Usko uss waqt cushioning ki zarurat hai jab woh achha nahi karta. Toh woh cushioning di jaati hai player ko.)”  he stated.

“It’s not that tough. Like in Rishabh’s case, he played the one-dayers in England and scored a century there. And a player who gets a 100 gets backing. Everything is done keeping the larger picture in mind. If there is a match-winner, you have to back him. A decision is taken after analysing a lot of things,”  he added.

Tough Loss for India

It looked as if the Men in Blue were not ready for the steep challenge. The management would be worried about the form of Suryakumar Yadav as the batter hasn’t played according to his credentials. The batter had a dream run in T20I Series but wasn’t able to convert his form into ODIs

The management needs to find a way to give more chances to Sanju Samson as the batter has been frequently getting dropped from the side. Samson would be wondering what he needs to do to become a regular member of the side where the World Cup is slated next year.
