New Zealand opening batsman Finn Allen has emerged as one of their young talents, making waves with his destruction of Australia pacers inside the Powerplay at the just concluded T20 World Cup.

Despite his brief appearance, Allen managed to shake their confidence and lay the groundwork for a match-winning total, which eventually sealed Australia’s destiny in the tournament.

Finn Allen has participated in 24 T20 Internationals and has amassed 564 runs at an excellent strike rate of 164.13, including a century and two fifty-scores. He says he admires India’s renowned batsman Virat Kohli among the current crop of players, but he also says he aspires to be like Suryakumar Yadav, whose 360-degree batting has quickly catapulted him to the top of the world rankings in the particular format.

“In terms of guys that I admire, obviously the way Virat has gone about, He had a little bit of a tough time of late, and then to come out the way he has in the last few months and persevered through those challenges is very admirable. Just seeing him overcome that and finish the World Cup as the top run scorer for his country” Finn Allen told Hindustantimes.com.

He added, “I really love watching Surya play. He is the No. 1 batter in the world at the moment and for good measure, I think. He is incredible. Some of the shots he plays are out of this world and he is someone I would strive to be like for sure.”

“Arshdeep set the World Cup alight was pretty cool”: Finn Allen

Finn Allen lauded the Indian bowling attack and described the tourists as an interesting team with plenty of X-factors in their batting lineup despite the absence of a few experienced players.

“Despite missing a few players, they still appear to have a lot of depth and some extremely talented players.” It has a slightly different appearance from what we saw in the World Cup. However, their bowling ability is unrivaled. In this series, they have three guys who can swing it both ways, which is always difficult for any batter to deal with” Finn Allen said.

“It was quite great to watch Arshdeep light up the World Cup without having to play against him. So we are eagerly anticipating that task. Then there’s their batting strength. They have X-Factor after X-Factor in their lineup. “They’re an exciting side,” Allen said.

With the series on the line, Allen will like to make up for his duck in the second match of the current three-match T20I series with India.
