Legendary New Zealand National Cricket Team batter Ross Taylor believes that the Black Caps will start as favourites to win the upcoming three-match ODI series against India National Cricket Team.
The first of the three ODIs between Shikhar Dhawan-led India National Cricket Team and Kane Williamson-led New Zealand National Cricket Team is scheduled to be played at Eden Park in Auckland on Friday (November 25).

Hardik Pandya-led India defeated New Zealand in the recently concluded three-match T20I series by 1-0. The first T20I was abandoned due to rain without a ball bowled, the Men In Blue won the second T20I by 65 runs, and the third T20I ended in a tie as rain interrupted the game and the scores of the teams were levelled based on the DLS method.
Taylor was asked who will start as favourites to win the upcoming ODI series, he picked New Zealand and said that they are fully aware of the conditions in Auckland and they know the 50-over format very well.
He also mentioned that the Black Caps defeated the Men In Blue by 3-0 in the ODI series after losing the T20I series by 0-5 during the India tour of New Zealand 2020. Speaking on ESPNcricinfo’s T20 Time Out, Ross Taylor said:
“I think New Zealand start as favourites at home. They know this format really well, know how to play in these conditions. It’s a young and exciting Indian side. When India beat us 5-0 in 20-20s a few years ago, we won the One-days 3-0. So we would have to just wait and see but I think New Zealand are slight favourites.”
This New Zealand side pride themselves in their One-day game – Ross Taylor
During the same interaction, Ross Taylor said that the series against India is going to be a very crucial one for the Black Caps. He elaborated:
“This New Zealand side pride themselves in their One-day game. This is a big series for them. We are not playing a lot of one-day cricket at the moment, but we do normally play one-day cricket really well. We know our conditions really well. And Eden Park, some more smaller boundaries to come, which once again as we mentioned, some of these Indian players have to get over very quickly as it can be a very intimidating place to come and bowl at.”
