IND vs NZ: “I Want Sanju Samson To Get All The Opportunities” – Ravichandran Ashwin

Veteran India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin recently spoke about star wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson not getting a consistent run of chances in the Indian team and said that the 28-year-old “will obviously get trended” if he is not a part of the playing XI.

Samson was not included in India’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 squad, despite performing consistently with the bat. In the recently concluded three-match T20I series against New Zealand, he didn’t get a chance to play and many fans and experts expressed their disappointment over his non-selection in the XI.

In a video shared on his official YouTube channel, Ravichandran Ashwin discussed the matter of Samson and said that he wants the wicketkeeper-batter to “get all the opportunities”.

“For his (Sanju Samson) talent, if he doesn’t play, he will obviously get trended. I want Sanju Samson to get all the opportunities. In fact, I even said that I am looking forward to watching him play since he is in exceptional form at the moment and is playing superbly,” Ashwin said on his YouTube channel.

Ashwin further spoke about how Hardik Pandya handled the subject of Samson’s non-selection very well. Notably, when the press asked Pandya about Samson’s non-selection, he replied:

“He knows it’s not personal. It’s got to do with the situation. I am a peoples’ person. So if anyone needs me, I will be there for them. Everyone knows that if they feel anything at all, my doors are always open for them to come and have a chat with me, because I understand how they are feeling.”

Ashwin said that Hardik Pandya responded to a query about Samson in Thala MS Dhoni style.

“He (Samson) is a very exciting player to watch but since we went with a different combination, as of now, we weren’t able to play him, said Hardik Pandya. In fact, the press asked him why he didn’t play Sanju Samson. Hardik Pandya replied in Thala Dhoni style. He said my room door will always be open, any player can come and have a conversation with me.

“It was very good to see him speak with such clarity l. In fact, I don’t know if he wanted to say that in Thala Dhoni style because we all know Hardik is super close to Thala Dhoni. And he had earlier said that he has learnt a lot from Thala Dhoni. He handled a tricky question that is always trending on social media very beautifully. So kudos to Hardik,” Ashwin said.
