New Zealand Cricket Team had won the toss and elected to bowl first in the 3rd ODI. The management once again ignored the dashing right-handed batter, Sanju Samson. Rishabh Pant continued his poor form as the wicket-keeper batter scored 10 runs in 16 balls where he smashed 2 fours.

India managed to put a below-par score of 219 runs. Surprisingly, the all-rounder Washington Sundar smashed a half-century and scored 51 runs in 64 balls where he whacked 5 fours and 1 six. There were high hopes from Suryakumar Yadav but the batter scored only 6 runs in 10 balls.

VVS Laxman on Rishabh Pant

Head Coach VVS Laxman had an interaction with Amazon Prime Video and was asked about Rishabh Pant. “It’s about giving them opportunities and also informing them whenever they aren’t picked. Pant has been doing well at no.4, not too long ago he scored an important century at Old Trafford and it’s important to back him,” said VVS Laxman.

“T20 cricket has given batters more confidence about clearing the grounds no matter how big the outfields are, they also work a lot with the range-hitting,” he added.

Poor Batting Display from India

The Men in Blue would be dejected as they couldn’t post a formidable total on the board. New Zealand has got a powerful batting lineup where they are not dependent on a single individual. The skipper Shikhar Dhawan would be worried as the batter hasn’t been able to post a significant score apart from the 1st ODI.

With the ODI World Cup 2023 just one year away, the management should give a long rope to Sanju Samson rather than making frequently dropping him. The batter has an average of 66 in 11 matches where he has scored 330 runs.

The wicket-keeper batter is not a part of Bangladesh ODIs which means once again he will have to wait for his chance. India would be well aware of the fact that they cannot take Bangladesh lightly as last time in 2015 the Bangladeshi tigers had won the ODI Series.
