Wasim Jaffer, a former cricketer, has chosen his Indian playing XI for the first ODI of the series between India and New Zealand with just one day remaining.

On Friday, November 25, Auckland will host the first of the three ODIs in the series. In the absence of the team’s normal captain, Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan will serve as captain, with Rishabh Pant serving as his backup.

Shikhar Dhawan and company are well prepared for the ODI series against New Zealand after winning the T20I series 1-0. Both captains, Shikhar Dhawan and Kane Williamson came together to reveal the ODI series trophy ahead of the first match on Friday (November 25) in Auckland. The two teams will meet in a three-match ODI series without big names like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.

India will be seeking to conclude the year on a high note after a recent successful triumph away from home. India defeated England in England, followed by ODI victories over the West Indies and South Africa, with the latter two series victories coming under Dhawan’s leadership. This will not be the first time that India will be led by Dhawan, who has an unblemished record as India’s ODI captain.

“No wrist spinners cos Eden Park has small boundaries”: Wasim Jaffer

In a video shared on his Twitter account, Wasim Jaffer picked India’s first XI for the opening ODI of the series, saying:

“My Indian team for first ODI: 1. Dhawan (C), 2. Gill, 3. Iyer, 4. SKY, 5. Pant (WK), 6. Hooda, 7. Washi, 8. Shardul, 9. Chahar, 10. Arsh 11. Umran.”

“No wrist spinners cos Eden Park has small boundaries. Backing Sundar & Hooda vs 4 NZ lefties. Bat deep with Chahar @ 9. ODIs at Eden park are often decided by lower order cameos”  Wasim Jaffer further added.

The two sides will lock horns in the first ODI on Friday, November 25, at Eden Park in Auckland.
