Former South African cricketer Daryll Cullinan believes that it’s time for Indian cricketer, Virat Kohli, to take a break from all formats and try to reinvent himself before making a comeback to the game.

Kohli has been going through a lean patch with the bat and he also relinquished captaincy in T20Is and Tests, before being stripped of the ODI captaincy unceremoniously by the BCCI.

He got into the shot early which shows the batter isn’t present [mentally]. I imagine Virat looking to defend there. But there are things clearly going on in his mind. Lot has been speculated about, he has relinquished captaincy, find his place where he belongs,” Cullinan told ESPNcricinfo.

“Start to plan the second part of his career” – Daryll Cullinan

It has been well over two years since Kohli managed to score a century in any format. It would be the right time for him to reset and come back stronger, something he is very much capable of doing.

Basically Virat now needs a break. Maybe a month or so away from the game. He can go and reinvent himself. Decide for himself ‘How much do I really want this?’ and then start to plan the second part of his career. I think also the change in the coaching personnel also had an impact on his decision,” Cullinan added.

India is currently struggling with the bat in all formats and it is majorly due to the poor form of Kohli and the absence of Rohit Sharma, who has been sitting out injured for the entire tour of South Africa.
