Cricket South Africa (CSA) has announced the new terms for the players in the bio-bubble ahead of India’s tour of South Africa. The tour will begin on December 26 with the first Test being played at SuperSport Park in Centurion.

The close contacts with covid-positive people do not have to isolate while being in the bubble. In addition to that, the ones who have returned positive results can continue staying in the bubble and quarantine in their hotel rooms granted they are “clinically stable”.

Considering that all those within the ecosystem will be vaccinated, the positive case will isolate within the hotel room if clinically stable. Contacts will continue playing and training with non-medical interventions strictly observed, and tested daily,” CSA’s chief medical officer Shuaib Manjra was quoted as saying to ESPNcricinfo.

The new rules are part of the Bio-secure Environment (BSI) which has been put together in a combined effort by CSA and the BCCI. Such stringent measures are being taken due to the emergence of a new covid-19 variant called the Omicron.

Currently, only 2000 fans are permitted – CSA

The CSA is hopeful of ensuring the participation of a crowd during the Test series. Unfortunately, it looks quite bleak at the moment with a maximum of 2000 fans likely to be allowed access inside.

Whilst at the end of the third wave we considered moving from a strict BSE to a managed environment, the Omicron variant and high levels of community transmission have forced a strict BSE. According to government regulations, only 2000 fans currently are permitted,” Manjra added.

The rules are in accordance with the Level 1 restrictions that are in place in South Africa. The borders are open, a curfew set from 12-4 AM, masks being made mandatory, and gathering of crowds restricted to a particular number, are a few of the rules in place.
