IND vs SA: India’s Predicted Playing XI Against South Africa– India’s Tour of South Africa 2021-22, 1st ODI

India and South Africa will lock horns in an upcoming ODI series. The IND vs SA ODI series will witness three games. The IND vs SA 1st ODI will take place on January 19 at Boland Park Stadium in Paarl. India lost to South Africa 2-1 in the Test series recently.

For the ODI series, KL Rahul will lead the Indian team while Temba Bavuma is the skipper of South Africa. India has named a 19-member squad for the ODI series, which consists of both young and experienced players. Here we talk about India’s predicted playing XI in IND vs SA 1st ODI.

IND vs SA: India’s Predicted Playing XI Against South Africa– India’s Tour of South Africa 2021-22, 1st ODI

KL Rahul (C)

In the absence of Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul will lead India in the ODI series. Being a captain, he will definitely play all three games. The right-handed batsman will play as an opener in the IND vs SA 1st ODI. Rahul owns a fabulous batting form currently. He slammed a century in IND vs SA 1st Test and a half-century in the 2nd Test.

Shikhar Dhawan

With KL Rahul, Shikhar Dhawan will be the other opener in IND vs SA 1st ODI. In the absence of Rohit Sharma, Dhawan will be the best choice of opener for the team. The left-handed batsman has a lot of experience as an opener. He played good knocks in his previous ODI series against Sri Lanka in July and England in March last year. He also showed a brilliant form in IPL 2021.

Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli will bat the no.3 spot in the match. This will be the first ODI post Virat Kohli’s ouster as ODI skipper. After relieving himself from captainship duties in all three formats, Kohli will aim to dominate with his batting. Although he has suffered to score well in Tests, Kohli has a good record in ODIs and T20Is in recent times.

Suryakumar Yadav

Suryakumar Yadav will play at the middle-order. The right-handed batsman made a wonderful ODI debut against Sri Lanka in July last year. Smacking 124 runs in 3 ODIs at an average of 62.0 and one fifty, he won the man of the series award. Now, the 30-year-old will aim to showcase his batting strength in South Africa.

Shreyas Iyer

Shreyas Iyer will be another batsman at the middle-order during IND vs SA 1st ODI. Shreyas Iyer sustained an elbow injury in March last year, due to which he was out of the national team for a long time. However, he made a fabulous comeback in the IND vs NZ Test series in November last year. Making his Test debut, Iyer slammed a century and fifty in both innings to win the man of the match award.

Rishabh Pant (WK)

Rishabh Pant will be the wicketkeeper for India in IND vs SA 1st ODI. The left-handed batsman recently slammed a century in IND vs SA 3rd Test. He also batted wonderfully during IND vs NZ T20I series and ICC T20 World Cup 2021. Last year during the ODI series against England in March, Pant slammed two 70-plus scores in two games.

Shardul Thakur

Shardul Thakur might be the all-rounder that India will pick during IND vs SA 1st ODI. Since South African grounds are more seam-friendly, the team will look to pick a seaming all-rounder like Shardul Thakur. With his 7-wicket haul in IND vs SA 2nd Test, Thakur has proved that he can attack the South African batsmen to a great extent.

Yuzvendra Chahal

Yuzvenhdra Chahal might be picked instead of Ravichandran Ashwin in the playing XI as a spinner. Ashwin did not emerge too impressive during IND vs SA Test series. Hence, the team might give a chance to Yuzvendra Chahal. Chahal last played an ODI series against Sri Lanka in July 2021. Playing 2 ODIs, the leg spinner gave an incredible performance picking 5 wickets at an average of 20.40.

Jasprit Bumrah

Jasprit Bumrah is the vice-captain of the team in the ODI series. He will be one of the pacers during IND vs SA 1st ODI. The right-arm pacer gave a brilliant performance in the Test series. He hunted 12 wickets across 3 Tests at an average of 23.42. Bumrah will look to attack with the same strength in the ODI series as well.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar

Bhuvneshwar Kumar will be another pacer in the match. The right-arm pacer has given a good performance in the recent international series. In his previous ODI series against Sri Lanka, he scalped 3 wickets in 2 games. Prior to that, he gave a spectacular performance in an ODI series against England, picking 6 wickets in 3 ODIs.

Deepak Chahar

Deepak Chahar might be the other pacer that the team can pick in the playing XI. Chahar had a successful IPL 2021 season with his team Chennai Super Kings, who won the title. He gave a good performance in his last T20I series against New Zealand in November. Moreover, he has also impressed with his batting cameos multiple times.
