Former India head coach Ravi Shastri has backed the Indian team to make a strong comeback after the Test and ODI series defeats against South Africa.

The India tour of South Africa 2021-22 started off really well for the visitors as they won the first Test match in a dominating manner in Centurion. However, the hosts made an astonishing comeback and won the Test series by 2-1. The three-match ODI series was even poor from India’s perspective as they were unable to win a match and the KL Rahul-led side lost the series by 0-3.

Meanwhile, former coach Ravi Shastri has said that a team can’t win every game and the wins and losses are part of a team’s journey.

If you lose one series, you people start criticising. You can’t win every game, there will be wins and losses,” Ravi Shastri told the PTI.

Shastri added that India have been a top-ranked side for five years and there is nothing to worry about.

“How can the standard go down suddenly? For five years, you have been the number one side in the world, When you have a win ratio of 65 per cent over the last five years, what is there to worry about? What is there to worry about, our rival teams should worry,” he added.

The India tour of South Africa 2021-22 was the first overseas assignment of Rahul Dravid as a head coach and the results didn’t go in his favour. After the series losses against the Proteas team, Dravid had said that the series was a good eye-opener for the team.

This series has been a good eye-opener for us. It is an opportunity to reflect and learn. The team has not played a lot of one-day cricket since the last World Cup. We need to look to keep improving,” he added.
