India opener KL Rahul said that 2021 will go down as one of the greatest years for Indian cricket. The Virat Kohli-led side completed a historic win in the first Test in Centurion against South Africa to end the year on a high, which had begun with another historic win at the Gabba in Brisbane against Australia.
Indian team devoid of many first-choice players beat a full-strength Australian team at a venue in Brisbane where they had not lost a Test match since 1988 and not only registered a historic win, but became the first Asian team to beat Australia in Test series in their own backyard two consecutive times.
Sandwiched in between were Test series win at home against England and New Zealand and record creating victories in England, where they lead the five-Test series 2-1 with one match to be played in July 2022. India registered amazing wins in Oval and Lord’s.
It’s A Super Super Special Year For Team India: KL Rahul
And KL Rahul was one of the main architects in these historic wins on more than one occasion. He scored a brilliant century in Lord’s and repeated the feat in Centurion helping India become the first Asian nation to win a Test at the venue.
“It’s a super super special year for team India. The kind of achievements that we have gotten this year has been truly special. I think it will go down as one of the greatest years in Indian cricket history. It has taken a lot of hardwork and discipline. We have worked really hard as a team for few years,” Rahul said at the post match press conference.
Rahul also credited the dressing room atmosphere for the great performance on the field and preparation part of things as well.
“Yes, the dressing room atmosphere is amazing at the moment. It is a great Test victory. No Asian team has come here and won in Centurion and (it speaks of) kind of work we have put in, in the last two weeks leading up to this Test match. We worked really hard as a team and we really had a lot of fun at training and at practice,” the senior opener said.
Rahul termed it as a complete team performance that has set the tone in the first game of the series.
