India and South Africa are set to face each other in an ODI series. The IND vs SA ODI series will follow the 3rd Test between both the nations, scheduled to take place from January 11-15. The IND vs SA ODI series consists of three games. The 1st and 2nd ODI will take place on January 19 and 21 at Boland Park in Paarl. The 3rd ODI will take place on January 23 at Newlands Stadium in Cape Town.

KL Rahul will lead the India squad as ODI skipper Rohit Sharma is not available due to fitness issues. Temba Bavuma is the skipper of the Proteas team. BCCI has named an 18-member Indian squad for the ODI series, comprising a combination of young and experienced players.

3. Washington Sundar

Washington Sundar is the first Indian player who might be benched throughout the IND vs SA ODI series. Sundar is a batting all-rounder who bowls off-spin. Due to South Africa’s seam-friendly grounds, the team might pick Venkatesh Iyer in the squad as an all-rounder if the need arises, who bowls medium pace.

Moreover, since Sundar is an off-spinner like Ravichandran Ashwin, the latter is more likely to be picked if the team wants to go with a spin all-rounder. Also, many strong batsmen are part of the squad and hence, Sundar might find it difficult to find a place in the playing XI. The left-handed batsman has experience of only 1 ODI so far.

The third Indian player who can be benched during the IND vs SA ODI series is Rututaj Gaikwad. The right-handed batsman only plays as an opener. Shikhar Dhawan and KL Rahul are most likely to open the innings for India.
