It has only been a few weeks that Rahul Dravid has been the head coach of the Indian team, but he has already seemed to have an impact on the players. Indian Test openers KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal got together to share their experience of having worked under Rahul Dravid for the short period so far.

Rahul was pretty pumped up that Dravid has taken over as the head coach and believes the latter’s experience of having scored runs in foreign conditions will be of great use for the batsmen.

“Having Rahul Dravid with us this time is very helpful. He has played a lot of cricket here, he has scored a lot of runs. In the three or four days of training that we have had, he has had a lot of experiences to share and he is really helping us prepare the best we can. That’s a huge boost for us,” Rahul stated.

Mayank Agarwal also gave his thoughts as to how the presence of Rahul Dravid has helped in his preparation for the South Africa series. He spoke about the mental adjustments players need to make while playing in these conditions.

“For me personally, he has just been a person who talks about understanding your game, understanding yourself and understanding your mind space. If you can work that out, sort that out then more often than not you are giving yourself the best possible chance to succeed,” Mayank Agarwal said.

Giving a briefing on how good preparation is something that Rahul Dravid focuses on, Agarwal added:

“Knowing him, he is a man who really thrives and puts the onus on good, strong preparation. We’ve had quality sessions over here [South Africa] and we are really looking forward to playing the Test match.”

Mayank Agarwal and KL Rahul are likely to be the openers for the South Africa series and will have a tough job of blunting the new ball against some of the best fast bowlers in the world.
