IND vs SA: Rahul Dravid Swats Aside Questions Regarding Virat Kohli-BCCI Saga
Team India head coach Rahul Dravid has refused to reveal conversations he might have had internally among his players, stating that they will never come out in the media. He also refused to answer questions regarding the discord between Virat Kohli and BCCI.
Ahead of the South Africa tour, Dravid spoke in the press conference alone as Kohli decided to stay out of it. As expected, the 48-year-old was bombarded with questions regarding the ongoing saga between Kohli and the BCCI, Sourav Ganguly in particular.
“To be honest that’s the role of the selectors and I am not going to get into conversations that I might or might not have had,” he said when asked about the change in ODI captaincy.
“It’s not the place and the time to be doing that and discussing that. And what internal conversations I have had is certainly not going to come out in the media and I am not going to start telling people what conversations I have had,” Dravid mentioned.
“Virat as a leader has been fantastic” – Rahul Dravid
Now that Kohli has been stripped of ODI captaincy, he remains the skipper in Test cricket only. Although his captaincy might be questioned in the white-ball formats, he is unarguably India’s best captain in Tests.
“Virat as a leader, as a captain, he’s been fantastic. We are certainly looking to him to carry that forward and really pushing and challenging this team. The Test team; we want to keep improving, we want to get better as a group, and Virat plays a huge role in that, in taking the Test team forward. He is one of those players who loves Test cricket, who looks forward to Test cricket. Hopefully, he has a great series and that will benefit the team as well,” Dravid said.
The tour begins today with the first Test set to be played at the SuperSport Park in Centurion.
