South Africa have won the toss in the first ODI of the three-match series against India and elected to bat first at the Boland Park in Paarl. India and South Africa will be locking horns in the first ODI of the three-match series at the Boland Park in Paarl on Wednesday. Prior to this, both the teams were involved in a high-voltage three-match Test series and the Proteas won it by a 2-1 margin.
As far as the teams are concerned, this was supposed to be Rohit Sharma’s first assignment as the full-time ODI skipper of the Men in Blue. However, he was ruled out of the entire tour due to a hamstring pull and thus, KL Rahul will be leading the side in his absence while Jasprit Bumrah will be seen taking up the vice-captaincy role.

Speaking of the Indian Cricket Team, a couple of fresh faces in the likes of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Venkatesh Iyer will be seen in the side. While Ruturaj might have to wait for his opportunity, Venkatesh Iyer could well be in the first XI from the first ODI itself as he adds an additional bowling option.

On paper, South Africa looks a weakened side when compared to the Men in Blue but the team has been doing reasonably well in the last 3-4 months. A brilliant T20 World Cup campaign followed by a Test series win will definitely keep the morale high for the Proteas. Their veteran pacer, Kagiso Rabada has been released from the squad as part of workload management and hence, the Indian batters might have a great opportunity to score runs in abundance.

Focus Shifts To Virat Kohli ‘The Batter’
All eyes will be on former Indian skipper Virat Kohli as his hunt for the 71st international century continues. The last few months have been turbulent in Indian cricket and Virat has been the centre of the controversies. Now with all the leadership burden off his shoulders, we might witness the Virat Kohli of a couple of years back, who used to score centuries for fun.
