South African batsman Rassie Van der Dussen scored his second ODI ton and his first vs India in the first ODI in Paarl. Along with him Protean skipper Temba Bavuma also scored a century to dominate the Indian bowlers in the first ODI. They both added a 204-run stand for the fourth wicket which is the second double-hundred run partnership for South Africa against India.

Bavuma and Rassie Van der Dussen came together with the team score at 68/3 with the fall of Aiden Markram’s wicket. Their partnership was almost a run-a-ball with both the batters scoring runs with intent.

The kept on rotating the strike and did not lose a wicket to the Indian spinners in the middle-overs. They negated both the Indian spinners beautifully with both Chahal and Ashwin going for 53 runs of their 10 overs each.

Earlier in the game, Bavuma won the toss and opted to bat first. Quinton De Kock (27) returned to the ODI side and opened the batting with Janneman Malan (6). Bumrah dismissed Malan early to give an advantage to the Indians but this 204-run partnership has brought the advantage back to the hosts.

South Africa posted a competitive 296/4 as Van der Dussen ended unbeaten on 129. Temba Bavuma was dismissed for a well-made 110 off 143 balls. India now need 297 to win the first ODI and take a lead in the series.
